About
Jane Kempe is an illustrator, designer and painter. She began her artistic career hand-painting t-shirts and designing logos for tourism groups around her hometown of Point Lonsdale.
While touring Europe, she absorbed the influences of the Impressionists particularly the colourists who had resided in the south of France – Matisse, Dufy and Bonnard. Jane allows the seascapes of the Bellarine region to inform her arts practice and is also influenced by cartoons, fashion illustrations, interior design and all that is pop.
She has worked as a designer for Tourism Victoria, designing images of Melbourne’s Port Phillip Bay in 1999 and 2000 and was commissioned by the Austin Research Institute, Melbourne to design new branding and a booklet for National Science Week 2005.
Jane creates a monthly cartoon “Derek the Seagull” for Talking Heads newspaper, Barwon Heads, and is a peer consultant for their local Festival of the Sea.
